Ever seen a box turtle take a bath?

Well take a look and see!

Having been a particularly dry, hot summer, I put out a little dish of water for her to "soak" in, since we don't have a pond or natural source of water of that kind.

Then I gave her some strawberry, her favorite treat.

Which she promptly trundled off with to eat off camera.

Tea cozy

Ah hah! I found some pictures that I meant to post a while back! Well, no time like the present . . .
This is a tea cozy that my mom knitted for a friend of hers.
Practical and just the cutest thing . . .  now that's a good gift.

This one is my favorite!

Tailed Blue butterfly

This little critter spent the night on the outside wall of our house, giving me ample time to photograph it. Once I saw it I knew what kind of shot I wanted, a sideways shot with  the butterfly sharp with the background and foreground blurred.

 Easily enough achieved . . .
Though I think the picture is more interesting flipped on it's side. But you know what I should have done? Gotten right underneath and used the same depth of field, but gotten its cute little face! Oh well....always next time...

Lastly, I'm doing a photo challenge, creative flash photography, so on the spur of the moment I used my flash, and I rather liked the result.

On a side note, school has started, so my posts will probably be less frequent, even though I doubt I'll be taking less pictures. =D

Spicebush Swallowtail Butterfly!

So happy to get to see this butterfly again and take some better pictures, especially now that I know more about it. (If you want to see what I learned, you can read the blog post Here)
It was floating gently from blossom to blossom on our Mimosa tree, sipping the nectar from the fluffy flowers. (If you haven't seen a Mimosa tree before, you can click Here for my earlier blog post.)

Having got my "specimian shot", I then went for more unique compositions.

Here I purposely put the butterfly in between myself and the sun, so the wings would light up.

I found this one amusing, it almost looks like the butterfly just dive-bombed onto the flower.   = D
In reality it was a little windy and the Swallowtail had a very bumpy lunch. Probably something like eating while on a galloping horse...!

Beagle in the sun

Laying on the apparently comfy, crunchy dead grass.  =)

When Daisy is happy, she'll roll around on her back and wave various paws in the air.  =D

Leaves, Needles and and a Hopper

The Maple trees on my street were positively glowing the other day, in the late afternoon sun and calling my name . . . after all, I have pictures of red, orange and yellow maple leaves, but none of them in summer when they're green!
Easy enough to remedy . . .

Then we had a brilliant sunset and I got a nice silhouette of a pine tree.

And this is the "hopper", on my brother's car.  =)

But it doesn't say anything about whats on top of the mirror!

Lastly, a window in the sky . . .

Green Dragonfly!

Yes, I finally saw and caught on my camera a green dragonfly!
Looking it up on wikipedia it appears to be a Green Darner, because of its resemblance to a darning needle.
Does it resemble a darning needle to you? I'm having some doubts . . .  =)
