The Cutest-Ugly Things You ever Saw

This post is long overdue!
In the last post mrs. robin hadn't even laid her eggs yet; now, they've been laid, hatched and opened their eyes already!

Here's a summary of the last two weeks:

The firstborn!

Mrs. Robin weathering the Snow that swept in unexpectedly  on the 2nd of May . . .

A Fine Family of Three. (The family in the Riverbirch tree has four! Pictures on that family coming soon.)

Time passes . . .

Ta-Da!
Aren't they just the Cutest- ugly things you ever saw?  <3

Four days later . . .

Baby robins getting their early-late morning snack . . .    ;)

You can just hear her, "Alright robin-ettes, settle down, it's time for your early-late morning nap."

*Chorus of protests from nest*

*Tweets cut off as momma plops down* . . .

But, inevitably, rascally robin #3(his name is Horace) pokes his beak out, "Help! Help! I'm being sat on!!"

Momma robin, "Horace, if you don't stay down, I'll have your dad come sit on you!"

Two days later . . . feathers and pinions start appearing.

I think this guy was tryin' to tell his momma something . . ."Worm? Please? Now? Soon?"

Incidentally though, we found out they were old enough to recognize vibrations as the signal that their parents had arrived with food, however, all vibrations must sound alike to baby robins, because a photographer traipsing down the stairs had the same effect. =D
Only one took the bait though.  ;)

Lunchtime!

After watching them a couple days, I noticed something odd she would do. After she fed them she would pause a while, cock her head, look at them (all jabbering at once), open and close her beak a few times, then fly off.

Now I'm sure there's a logical explanation for this, but one wonders if it's really a (one sided) conversation:

Baby robin #1(We'll call him Robert)  "What's for lunch?!  Are we having worms again?! Is that all their is out there?! What do caterpillars taste like?!"
Baby robin #2  (Harold, at the same time) "Mommmm! Horace just stuck his wing in my eye again! And he was crowding me earlier!! And-"
Baby robin #3 "Mom! Mom! Guess what?! I saw something! It was REALLY big and part of it was square and black, and Robert thought it was you with food!"

This has got to be one of my favorites: Mouths open all the way!

Did you know baby robins can sleep-eat?
They really would fall asleep with their mouths open!

They are just so funny.

Welp, that's all for now!

God Bless!

  4. That is a very true title! It's so amazing to see how lovely God's creation is from the smallest little birds:)
A bird would never build a nest on our steps, sadly. Our cats would chase them away (or worse...) :(
The eggs too, are so pretty! I didn't realize how colorful they were either:)
Laughing at your commentary of what the babies might be saying:D We like to do that with our animals; we have so much fun!
Apparently I'm tired, so that means goodbye:)

    1. Yes! I think the average person would just pass them off as ugly, but they ARE wonderfully and fearfully made! =D
Ha! They seem to be safe from the cats in the neighborhood; the rabbits however? No. One was hopping up the stairs one morning! He was quickly chased off. ;)
Oh you do?! It is a lot of fun, there are SO many things they could say . . .
      Thanks! =)

  5. Oh, Jenny. I was rolling laughing looking at those pictures!!! THEIR BEAKS! Do they do anything but eat? Their poor mum, "I've sat on you for weeks and weeks and now I have to spend every minute of my time feeding you, is that it?"

I had a tree right next to my window last year that had a nest in it full of baby birds. The branch was a couple feet too tall for my sight, but I could see little beaks constantly raised.

    This is adorable.

      Thanks Gabby!

  7. This is the coolest thing ever!!! This made my day: "*Chorus of protests from nest*" hahaha! And Horace is my favorite, definitely. How awesome that you got to track their progress from birth to becoming birds! :) That's the coolest thing ever. Can't wait to see more!!

  8. I know! It's so neat to get to check on them every day and watch them grow up. We can even watch from two windows if the momma's there. (She's started swooping at us if we get too close now!)
Yep, I'm collecting pictures for another post...! ;)
    Thanks Erin!
